Alex | Social Media

I am totally digging these social media shoots. For my models, it’s definitely one of those “treat yo’ self” type moments, as it’s always nice to have a few nice photos of yourself (that aren’t selfies). Today, Alex and I headed out to Alexander Grove Park in Stittsville to walk along the path. It had just rained, so it was a bit of a sticky walk, but still very nice!

We then head to Tanger Outlet mall for a few more shots…

We had a nice time taking some very casual photos and catching up since we hadn’t seen each other in well over 10 years.

Stone Cold Creations

Long time friends with Courtney (since grade 9 art class), I’ve been an admirer of her art work and jewellery. While she works towards her Phd, AND (magically!) travels to many conventions to sell her product. Her ability to do all of that blows my mind sometimes. Her hard work certainly pays off.

We got together on this beautiful snowy (albeit, a little windy) day to snap some photos of her more recent jewellery that she’s looking to expand selling online. We also snapped some portraits of the artist [aka: Courtney] as the model so potential buyers could see what the sizing is like realistically. Courtney was a fantastic model! She doesn’t even look like she was cold! Haha!

Diablo potions (or generic health/mana potions), 2 sizes.

She has a series of Harry Potter potion necklaces, but here’s a couple to start you off!

DnD necklaces!

The blue bracelet here was featured in the 2016 Geek Market Artist Scholarship competition and won!

A couple samples of her wide variety D20 earrings. Also, yes, that “wine” is very vibrant. It is, in fact, fruit punch. : )

A more masculine D20 necklace and also earrings with classes and races, so you can pick and choose your preference. Very fun idea!

Stud earrings, and rings also available!

Now I get to feature the artist herself…

Ahhh! So adorable. I love how casual her energy is. Also, the snow was not photoshopped, it was all natural!

There were so many fantastic photos of her, I really had a hard time slimming it down to put on the blog! If you’re interested in seeing more, make sure to visit her Facebook page.

CoTiCon | August 20, 2016

So, I’ve learned a few things when it comes to photographing masquerades: that I’m not a fan. Not to be mistaken with the fact that I really enjoy watching Masquerades and the costumes are absolutely phenomenal (each and every one!), buuuuut the likelihood of me taking photos from a masquerade in the future are probably slim to none.

I went to CoTiCon with the intention of taking photos through-out the day, but with the few very interesting panels I attended, it didn’t allow me much opportunity for photography. Plus, I was feeling lazy that day, haha. It was a small convention out in Cornwall, hosted by our own Annie DeRochie and it was truly a success. Lots of claps from this lady, because I had an amazing time. Though small, it was also intimate in the sense that it didn’t feel so pressuring and busy like most larger cons. I could just stand and talk to friends and not be pushed and shoved or sensing that they’re too busy to talk to me. Y’know? It’s just a different atmosphere, and it’s great.

I decided to debut my 90% completed Casual femshep costume (Mass Effect 3), and it was pretty exciting. I got some more legit costume pics at Toronto FanExpo (Pics coming soon). My friend who donned a casual Mei (Overwatch) joined me for the day, and we had fun meeting all sorts of new people, and bumping into some friends we already knew!

Anyway… to the photos. I have to fore-warn everyone, these photos aren’t the greatest, even with some heavy editing to make them look even remotely okay. I was kind of pushed off to one side, and I didn’t want to get in the main camera or the convention’s photographer, so please take these as purely fun photos and nothing really serious. The tricky part about any skit act is that you’re moving around, and it’s tough to get a photo that isn’t blurry. Though it’s been many years since I’ve participated in masquerades (though I intend to get back to them next year), I suggest that if you’re competing…in your skit somewhere, allow yourself to pose for the camera. You’ll thank me when you find great photos on stage of yourself.

The Annual Cottage Trip | July 2016

With a usually larger than normal group at our annual trip to our friend Cory’s cottage, we sized down and had a more intimate group this year. These best friends had a good time. I took over 900 photos, managed to size down to 100 edited photos and I’ll highlight the best of those on here for all to enjoy!

Thanks for taking the time to scroll through our weekend! We had a wonderful time!

Kelvin’s Birthday | The big 30!

One of my best and closest friends – Kelvin- just celebrated a milestone! His parents and friends were very eager to make it special for him.

We had an old school type theme, though I had decided before discussing with his mother that I was going to do a “punks not dead” cake, so in the end it worked out pretty well. I spent a lot of time developing a great white cake with black, white and red (albeit, looks pink) icing. Topped with silver edible ‘studs’. The boys aren’t overly fond of fondant, so I did my best to work with purely buttercream frosting. Doesn’t matter anyway, it tasted amazing (if I do say so myself)!

The cake baking I took with snapchat… haha, I was so excited.

So I had found a trick to make pure red icing, but apparently I added too much black to the red, and it ended up turning dark purple. I was really disappointed but improvised and pulled out the black food colouring and went that route instead.

I have learned over my time baking cakes that it’s better to let things sit to cure, if you will. I let the black icing with silver sprinkles sit overnight, and did the remaining decorating the following day.

I did the anarchy symbol on both sides, ‘punx not dead’ one side, and his name on the other. Suffice to say, I’m pleased my writing with my icing is getting much better.

So before I got this all wrapped up, I found this artwork at Toronto Comic-con from an artist, and got it professionally framed. As soon as I saw it I had to get it for him.

Gandalf was having fun playing with the string on his gift, haha.

His mom had a fun time cutting out these skulls and incorporating this into the decor.

Burgers and dogs were ready to go!

Great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors! Country air felt so good for all of us.

Inside, we await cake to be served…

Kelvin’s being a good sport about posing for all the photos I’ve been taking, haha.

Kelvin checking out the cake details, and finally we get to see what it looks like on the inside! I’ll end here with Kelvin opening our gift. Lighting was getting tough though so I decided to stop taking photos.

Thanks for scrolling through. We all had a lovely time!! What better than to spend your birthday with the people who mean the most to you. 🙂
