Maternity | Cassandra + Roy

I met Cassandra through a cosplay group, and we’ve become very close over the past few months! Her partner in crime Roy was very excited to hear that Cassie was interested in getting some maternity photos done, until he found out he had to be in them. Haha! He was cool as a cucumber though, and they were both fun to photograph!

It was a real pleasure working with Cassandra and Roy. They were a lot of fun and great sports considering they’ve never been in a photoshoot before. What a treat! 🙂

Mommy & Me | Boys will be boys

At our family Thanksgiving dinner, my cousin had asked if I could take some photos of her and her son since she didn’t have any updated photos. I was totally up for the challenge… kids aren’t usually my forte. I figured it wouldn’t be so bad, my [second] cousin Seth, age 7, generally looooves being in front of the camera so I figured it wouldn’t be so bad. When we got out to her step-father’s backyard and we were ready to start taking photos…

“no photos.”

We were both totally shocked. I would never force anyone into photos, but Erica and I really wanted to do it. We negotiated with him, that I would just take photos – but he could just be himself, he was ok with that. No posing. So here are the results of 100% candid photos…

He grabbed every large stick he could find to hit the grass with it… oh boy!

Look at him go!!

He eagerly wanted the broken down vehicle to start… obviously you can tell mama is proud of him anyway!

I love the photo of him stepping into the woods. Right before this he was looking to see if he could go in… Erica pipes up that he shouldn’t go in there. He whips around “I’m just looking!” and just when Erica and I turn away from him slightly to chat, he does this. Haha! What a cheeky boy!

That smile…!!! He’s a natural charmer!

We all had a lot of fun with this and it was nice to spend time with them. They’ll be great photos to reflect on when he gets bigger! Crazy!

The Annual Cottage Trip | July 2016

With a usually larger than normal group at our annual trip to our friend Cory’s cottage, we sized down and had a more intimate group this year. These best friends had a good time. I took over 900 photos, managed to size down to 100 edited photos and I’ll highlight the best of those on here for all to enjoy!

Thanks for taking the time to scroll through our weekend! We had a wonderful time!

Kelvin’s Birthday | The big 30!

One of my best and closest friends – Kelvin- just celebrated a milestone! His parents and friends were very eager to make it special for him.

We had an old school type theme, though I had decided before discussing with his mother that I was going to do a “punks not dead” cake, so in the end it worked out pretty well. I spent a lot of time developing a great white cake with black, white and red (albeit, looks pink) icing. Topped with silver edible ‘studs’. The boys aren’t overly fond of fondant, so I did my best to work with purely buttercream frosting. Doesn’t matter anyway, it tasted amazing (if I do say so myself)!

The cake baking I took with snapchat… haha, I was so excited.

So I had found a trick to make pure red icing, but apparently I added too much black to the red, and it ended up turning dark purple. I was really disappointed but improvised and pulled out the black food colouring and went that route instead.

I have learned over my time baking cakes that it’s better to let things sit to cure, if you will. I let the black icing with silver sprinkles sit overnight, and did the remaining decorating the following day.

I did the anarchy symbol on both sides, ‘punx not dead’ one side, and his name on the other. Suffice to say, I’m pleased my writing with my icing is getting much better.

So before I got this all wrapped up, I found this artwork at Toronto Comic-con from an artist, and got it professionally framed. As soon as I saw it I had to get it for him.

Gandalf was having fun playing with the string on his gift, haha.

His mom had a fun time cutting out these skulls and incorporating this into the decor.

Burgers and dogs were ready to go!

Great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors! Country air felt so good for all of us.

Inside, we await cake to be served…

Kelvin’s being a good sport about posing for all the photos I’ve been taking, haha.

Kelvin checking out the cake details, and finally we get to see what it looks like on the inside! I’ll end here with Kelvin opening our gift. Lighting was getting tough though so I decided to stop taking photos.

Thanks for scrolling through. We all had a lovely time!! What better than to spend your birthday with the people who mean the most to you. 🙂
